Kinetics of proton-coupled electron-transfer reactions
The kinetics of proton-coupled electron-transfer (pcet) reactions are reported for Mn4O4(O2PPh2)6, 1, and [Mn4O4(O2PPh2)6] , 1 , with phenothiazine (pzH). Both pcet reactions form 1H, by H transfer to 1 and by hydride transfer to 1 . Surprisingly, the rate constants differ by only 25% despite large differences in the formal charges and driving force. The driving force is proportional to the dif...
متن کاملWhat Optical Electron-Transfer Reactions Can Teach Us about Electrode Kinetics and Electrocatalysisl
A number of ingredients are known or thought to be important in determining rates of electrochemical reactions and, therefore, mechanisms of electrocatalysis. These ingredients may include bond reorganization, solvent reorganization, electronic coupling, ion pairing, proton demand, 'work terms", and free-energy driving-force effects. Although evidence exists, in general, for a detectable role f...
متن کاملSpectral analysis of electron transfer kinetics. I. Symmetric reactions
A spectral analysis method is proposed to characterize multiple time scales in electron transfer processes, including vibrational relaxation, electronic coherence, activated curve crossing, or barrier crossing. Within this unified framework, observed rate behavior, biexponential and multiexponential decay, and population recurrences and oscillations are different components of the same kinetic ...
متن کاملElectrostatic influence on energetics of electron transfer reactions.
Electron transfer chains in biological systems must operate efficiently to satisfy metabolic energetic requirements. The component proteins in these chains are expected to exhibit characteristic structural features that facilitate electron transfer to the appropriate donor and acceptor proteins. A survey of soluble one-electron carrier proteins indicates a significant tendency for lower potenti...
متن کاملDynamics of porphyrin electron-transfer reactions at the electrode-electrolyte interface at the molecular level.
Electron transfer is an essential step in many important processes and has been the subject of intensive research, with relevance to areas such as molecular electronics, electrochemistry, biology, catalysis, information storage, and solarenergy conversion. Therefore, understanding interfacial electron transfer between molecules and electrodes, and their dynamics at the molecular level, is impor...
